Baptism

We are really glad that you are thinking of having your child baptised at one of our churches and look forward to warmly welcoming you.

You can be baptised at any age, but the following refers to the baptism of babies and children.

If you have recently experienced the joy and wonder of the arrival of a new child, our warmest congratulations to you. Like many people at this wonderful stage of life, you may be looking for a way to thank the God who has given you such an amazing gift. We would count it a privilege to offer you the opportunity to do just that, with our special service for baptism.

We understand that having your baby baptised is an important family occasion and we hope this gives you the information you need.

If you wish to have a child baptised with us please come to a service at Pinhoe School and speak with the leader of the service, who will give you a baptism application pack and answer any questions you may have. The pack will contain leaflets and information on the Amazing Journey to Baptism and explains our Guest Services, about attendance at a Welcome Service and finally the Christening Service. We are committed to making your child’s Christening a really good experience for you, your chosen Godparents, and your family.

Baptism is the official name for the service. It comes from the Greek word for “to dip”.

Christening is the traditional English word for the same service and means “to make Christ’s”.

Godparents: There is no fixed number, though traditionally it is two men and a woman for a boy, and two women and a man for a girl.

Fees: We make no charge for Baptism but ask for a donation of £25 to cover expenses if you are having a private service and require an organist. Any additional donations are welcome and will be used to support our work with families across the Mission Community.
